I was reading the very clever Balustrade and Bitters and nearly dropped my coffee when viewing Colleen Rider’s gorgeous photos of the Tavern restaurant in L.A. It’s a magnificent interpretation of an English pub by design Jeffrey Alan Marks, who splits his time between those two locations (and is cute as a button himself). This will certainly be on my list of “must see’s” for my winter LA trip!
Design elements to note: the rivet edged metal tables, the rope detail on the lighting, the sofa-like tufted banquettes, the row of armchairs behind the bar stools in the bar (genius), the rough hewn flooring, the beautiful blue/grey wall color in the bar and the amazing chinoiserie wallpaper against the textured brick. All truly breathtaking!

This space is unbelievable, just beautiful!!!
wow! how gorgeous.
Wow! What a gorgeous space! The dining room is incredible. I love all of the masculine touches, color scheme, and lighting, but the ceiling and light really give the restaurant a California touch.
Absolutely stunning. I love the color palette. Although I must say, after living in London, this does not come CLOSE to resembling an English pub, which are normally dark, old, cramped, and quite honestly, don’t always feel… well, clean. Don’t get me wrong – I love them! Hah. They’re loaded with character and history. But this restaurant is far too pretty, open, light for me to make the connection. Now I’m off to look at more work by the designer.
On another note: I featured your beautiful home (well, bedroom) AGAIN on my blog today. The IKEA sheepskin rug is the second, no wait, third item I’ve purchased after seeing it in your home. The first being the spine bookcase, the second the Fabricadabra pillow cover. You truly are an inspiration!
I just checked out the menu (because something decorated that beautifully MUST have incredible food, too). Even more of a reason to visit- everything looks amazing- and quite a few french-inspired dishes.
I’ve been there … it is amazing!!
wow! this place is fabulous. I could see people renting out the place for special events! And I like Balustrade and Bitters. Very fun website and blog.
Love……Love everything about this space! I really love the contrast of the chinoiserie paper and the brick wall….the floors are gorgeous too! Thanks very much for sharing.
Goodness I love that yellow bird wallpaper. It looks like embroidery, like it has a texture – it demands to be touched. So lovely…
I like the look of this very much and wish I could eat here (and be in L.A. instead of the rainy DC area, for that matter)! The ONLY thing I don’t love is the fabric that is on the chairs in the middle of the space. That check looks a little hotel lobby to me.
It’s a GORGEOUS restaurant in person, AND the food is delicious!!
I love the big windows and the amount of light that comes through! It looks like it would be a really fun place to eat.
I love how even in LA you can find the essence of Northeastern style! So clean and pure – beautiful!
it’s gorgeous. love love love the hostess station. that wallpaper……………..!
Thanks for sharing, love this place! Although, I must agree with a prior comment, it looks NOTHING like an UK pubs I have ever been in. I love the friction between the really refined details such as the hand painted wall covering and the tufted banquettes played against the more rustic, almost industrial at times, touches. This place is going on my “must see” list as well!
Stunning images! Wish I could be dining there this weekend!
ahhh! was just there last night. walking distance from david’s place. come out to LA!!!!
This is an amazing restaurant. One of my favorites and so close to the house!
