I could spend HOURS looking for great chairs to refinish on eBay. My husband thinks I may have a “sickness”. There are a frightening amount of chairs in our home (and basement) awaiting a fresh coat of paint and upholstery in order to be sold in my fictitious “online store” (someday, I swear, I’ll have one). This morning I got a little fix, and decided to share some finds since I am cut off from purchasing until I sell the ones I have.
These Bergere chairs are so unique- re-upholstered they would be a magnificent little seating pairing!
The lines on these chairs are MAGNIFICENT- another case of reupholstering and painting the legs! Maybe a bold print like Chiang Mai Dragon or Imperial Trellis?
How amazing is this set of ornate carved dining chairs? Around a really clean lined modern wood farm table they would be INSANE. I love them-especially perhaps if painted a great color???
If faux bamboo and caning is more your thing, check out these babies. Again, alittle paint and perhaps a cushion made for the seat and you’ve got a lovely set for a small round dining table.
Nothing beats a pair of x-benches for extra seating in a small space- place them under a console or flanking a fireplace when not in use. These are cheap and could be re-upholstered in something really fun!
Whenever I see a chair on the side of the road I’m yelling “we have to stop for that!” while my husband is speeding up the car! Ohmygod, I am drooling over those carved dining chairs – I think they actually look great as is. If only I weren’t a poor student with no money or place to put them, haha!

i TOO love chairs, and i TOO have a pile that i’m “going” to refinish and sell (or just stare at b/c realistically i love them too much to sell them) BUT last night i had a dinner party and as the night went by the number of guests kept growing and i used ALL of my chairs… so it’s all worth it, right?
This is totally my obsession too. I have this wild hair that someday I will have a tiny shop where I have amazing old chairs that I have rescued and restored to utter fabulosity. Craigslist so far has really been good to me, but the other problem with this entire scenario is that I will fall in love with a chair, restore it, and then want to keep it and then where will that get me? :)

Ditto to Rachel. I have a serious chair addiction. I spend my time traipsing back and forth from eBay to Craigslist. I often make them over, but then cannot part with them. I love your selection here.

i’ve had chippendale chairs for years passed down from my parents. i am always looking for fabric, but to no avail. after spotting similar chairs at jonathan adler upholstered in a honey mustard velvet, i felt inspired. BUT, i have no idea where to look for such fabric….suggestions?
i was in the new Jonathan Adler store on Newbury the other day and he’s got almost identical X stools selling for $695 and up, so think before you price too cheap!

Blogging is a great outlet for Ebay lovers. Sometimes I post about an item, then regret it and want to bid on something (what have I done?!) But putting it in posts is better than putting it in one’s garage (or on one’s lengthening “to do list”. Love top 2 chairs. Trish
i think my eyes just popped itself out when i saw the dining chairs! its beautifully carved and made. just imagine with the right upholstery and paint. like a deep striped patterns or mixing and matching them with different colours from the same pattern would be scrumptious too. oh lord! you have such a great eye, it dont matter if its an addiction or not, stick to what you know best! haha
