I am, admittedly, a jean snob. I am a pretty strong Hudson devotee and can justify the $180 a pair price tag with the fact that I wear jeans almost every day. However, lately I’ve been noticing that designer jeans are creeping well into the $200- $225 range and well, that just seems silly to me. Last weekend I waltzed into the Gap and while perusing the denim I noticed changes- the fits seemed refined, the washes richer and the details more interesting. Come to find out, via a style savvy friend who bought three pairs, that the design department has done an overhaul of the whole 1969 denim line and pricing it all under $70! I am going to be trying on those button ankle numbers for sure!
And while there I also noticed this buttery leather foldover messenger bag. The messenger bag is going to be BIG this fall, I will guarantee it, and at $158, it’s not bad on the wallet that goes inside it! As much as I love summer, I have to admit I’m getting pretty excited for cozy sweaters, leather bags and boots!

Wow! I will definitely check it out :) I, too, am a jean snob, but you never know…sometimes jeans work out from places that you least expect~
Funny you should post this. I too have ventured into the Gap more this summer than I have in many years. I got their trendy distressed boyfriend jeans that I have seriously lived in all summer, plus I snagged a great pair of white jeans last week for $16. They'r super cute too. I think Gap is great those "trendier" styles.
I loved Gap in high school and college, glad they are stepping it up!
I'm with you on the Hudson's…I love them {and my paiges'}! Gap denim has never fit me right, but it sounds like I should try out their new line.
I loooove my 1969 jeans I bought a few years ago. they've gone through the wash a few too many times, so I'm in the market for another pair. I hope the new version fits my boo-tay as well as the originals!
GO GAP!!!! love it all, especially that bag! (prob bc I couldn't fit into those jeans if i tried right now… but maybe later this fall!?)
I had no idea GAP made such stylish jeans. I love the price. Thanks for posting. I can't wait to try them on.
Am I the only one that thinks they are channeling J. Crew a little bit?
Finally! Thanks for this tip.
Please let us know if they work out!
I like most women, HATE jean shopping yet I LIVE in them so it is an unavoidable event that I must eventually give in to once I've torn a hole in my favorites. My boyfriend's cousin Allison owns In-jean-ius in the North End of Boston, so last weekend I went into the dressing room with the 85 pairs of jeans she had picked out for me. I tried on a pair of Hudson's for the first time, and immediately bought them. I can't believe I've gone this long not owning a pair! Pricey, yes, but they're 100% worth every penny. I'll definitely be buying more!
I love Gap jeans, they have been my favorite and it seems like they are stepping them up again.
That messenger bag is fabulous!

Martin and Osa have a fabulous jean collection as well. Their dark denim looks well beyond the price tag. Love your blog!
I'm not opposed to buying GAP jeans. I even buy jeans at Old Navy once in a while! But I wouldn't dream of ever giving up my Hudson jeans or any of my other favorite designer pairs, for that matter. Truth be told, they could probably take me for $250 a pair…but don't tell them that.
I haven't tried GAP jeans in years – I'll have to check 'em out :)
I learned a while back that JCrew jeans are essentially Paper, Cloth, Denim jeans. Cut from the same pattern, according to the store. It's great to learn how some of these more affordable stores are essentially "made" the same as the pricier.
I am ususally devoted to Joe's Jeans, but I bought the Gap Always Skinny…they are pretty amazing.
:( hahaha makes me sad right now– can't WAIT to be in real jeans again!!!
I just picked up a pair of Always Skinny jeans from the new 1969 collection and they're too good! I love them, they are as comfortable as leggings and the wash is nice and dark.
I believe that Gap is actually running a promotion right now for $20 off every pair of 1969 jeans. That brings the price of some pairs down to just $50!
after reading this post i decided to head to my local gap to check some jeans out. i am also a jean snob – hudsons and sevens are my favorite, but i agree super expensive. especially for skinny jeans, i tend to go for cheaper pairs since they are kind of a "trend" (or so they say) rather than a staple. anyways LOVED the gap skinnies and ended up buying a pair ! they fit really great ! thanks so much for letting me know !!!!
i'm playing catch up on your posts this past week! i am always on the hunt for great jeans so will def. check out the gap- but your statement about looking forward to the cosy sweaters and boots for the fall. now you're talking my language!!
