Escapism, Mexico Style

It’s been a gloomy, damp week here in Boston and I am FED UP, I tell you. Every February/March I go on a “why the hell do I CHOOSE to live here??” tirade (super fun for Andrew to listen to annually) and imagine life in sunnier, warmer climates. Alas, I am a New Englander born and bred and this comes with the territory- we bitch and moan but never, ever leave. As Linda Richmond would say “discuss”

If only the economy wasn’t in the crapper I might be able to take a short break from all this doom and gloom and run off to one of my top “places I want to go”,Las Ventanas al Paraiso.
I’ve been drooling over this place for years- the whitewashed exteriors, thatched roofs, clustered tin star chandeliers… *le sigh*

Even the tablecloths are mexican chic- recognize them ? Domino would approve, may she rest in peace…

The pictures below kind of make me want to kill myself.

Love the headboard (same shape as this Adler number, no?) and the simple, antiqued, authentic look of the rooms.

The blue and white vase reminds me of M. Weinrib’s Amagansett pattern…

They even set up doggy cabanas next to your lounger by the pool- and offer doggy spa services (that guy must be like “Really? Is this my job?”) Baxter and Ollie would be in heaven (and so would their mommy, as she sips fine tequila in the sun…)

Calgon, take me away….

I SO feel your pain as a fellow Bostonian….I am going through my own version of March Madness and am so cranky/antsy for better weather. Ugh!

That resort looks abolutely gorgeous!! Reminds me a lot of Maroma–the boutique resort/spa I went on my honeymoon on the Mayan Riviera. Highly, highly recommended for ultimate pampering and relaxiation. Check it out if you have time :)

Off topic, but I’ve been meaning to ask you if you follow http://www.stylemepretty.com? Your love of wedding styles made me think of you when I saw it.

I started tanning yesterday! AWFUL I know but I needed light/warmth/COLOR…I’m on the MA/RI border and although I’m not originally from here, I consider myself a New Englander now so I’m allowed to complain too I think. I’ve been buying fresh flowers weekly but nothing seems to help. These Mexico pics are helping a little! Thanks!!

I want to go to there…As a Georgia girl who is about to move to Boston for my lovely fiance, I am a little worried about my adjustment. I am use to spring arriving March 1 on the dot. It was 75 and sunny here yesterday. But alas, I know I would rather be chilly up with my man then alone here in Hot-lanta.

Hahaha Sarah and Hillary, I was about to say the exact same quote! This place actually looks like heaven on earth. I completely sympathize with your longing for a warmer climate, only I normally surrender to those wistful dreams as early as December…

  6. Sarah says:

This looks dreamy. I could use a getaway right now.

  7. Jessica says:

Glad I’m not the only New Englander who feels this way!

  8. Jessica says:

New Yorkers feel the same way, too. We’re almost at the end! And that looks heavenly. They should give discounts to beleaguered New Englanders

I laughed when I read your post b/c I completely empathize with you! I have been complaining to my boyfriend for the past two weeks that I really think we should move to Charelston,SC. I have never been but heard it’s beautiful. To quiet me down he decided that we’ll take a long weekend to Charleston in April! ha Who knows – maybe I’ll come back wanting to be a southern gal…but like you said, New Englanders complain but NEVER move!

  10. Connor says:

Holy shnikees Erin! This place is ridiculous.

aaah, those lounge chairs are calling my name!

  12. LindsB says:

I love the comment about being a born and bred New Englander and never, ever leaving. Its so true, I complain every January, February and March and dream of warmer weather but, like you, will never leave New England to get it- I just cant.

Anyway, that place looks magical- I’d love to be sipping a cocktail on one of those chairs right about now.

You should check out the designer Jamie Drake from “Drake Designs”…so you! I would love for you to do a segment on this designer. Thanks!

Ah, I’ve been there and now I REALLY want to go back!!! It’s so gorgeous. My other favorite Cabo hotels are the Esperanza and the Palmilla (both are equally as beautiful as Las Ventanas).

I’m SO OVER this cold weather already.

  15. Averill says:

Ugh. I live in a warm climate and you’re STILL making me wish I was there! Gorgeous.

I want that blue/white zig-zag vase by the way.

New Englanders do complain about the weather and sometimes we leave. Years ago I was shoveling a late March snow fall trying to get the family out of the house for school. My husband, who was on a business trip called and asked my daughter to get me to come to the phone… I yelled back to my daughter behind the frosty window that I would call daddy back. She replied, Dad wants to know if you want to move to Austin, Texas? Without turning around to look at her I yelled YES. Well, a month and a half later, we were in sunny, funkie Austin, Texas. I miss New England, but I can visit my sibs there.

I just got back from Las Ventanas last week! Most incredible whale-watching I’ve ever seen. Serenaded by classical guitars by the Sea of Cortez, fabulous tequila and ceviche bar – which becomes a tequila and sushi bar at night. It was incredible….

As you dream of mexico, I have nightmares of ‘tourist gone bad’ with all the news and govt warnings of no spring break in mexico for fear of getting caught in the drug war cross fires. Come to LA instead please…

  19. ivansbabe says:

I’m in Seattle and even though it’s sunny today, I’m sick of the cold! Heck it snowed here on Monday…that’s weird even for us. And I think we wrote the book on gloomy weather.

I’ve never been one to have a strong desire to go to Mexico…but I think you sold it to me. Wow, that place is insanely beautiful. I think I want to cry.

  20. Jill says:

This looks beautiful. I want this to be my next Mexico destination. Check out The Tides in Zihuatenejo (I’m sure I spelled that wrong). This little resort is our favorite.

  21. Jaime @ PrimaDonna Boutique says:

Wow. Who wouldn’t want to go there??

  22. Love Where You Live says:

Quite a spectacular place…I wanna go, too. But, I really loved the pooch hut. Sweet. cheers, -susan

  23. Brilliant Asylum says:

Even when the economy is doing well, Las Ventanas is still a little steep for moi. I still am dying to go. Maybe I will stay next door and just go over for dinner.

Hang in there–spring is just around the bend.

  24. *moggit girls says:

We want to go to there, too.

  25. Simone says:

let us all run away!!! winter has worn out his welcome.

Cabo became a second home for me for a while because I was working for Paul Duesing Partners and making frequent trips to complete different phases of the Palmilla. They just renovated their retail store and added 13 suites as well as a Presidential Villa. I just wanted to let your bloggers know that PDP was responsible for Las Ventanas, Palmilla, Hilton (reno) and Pedregal so whatever your budget allows you can still take advantage of great design. It was fun running across these pictures! Las Vetnanas by far is the ultimate getaway…they take care of everything!!
