We’re only nering the end of the first week of 2009 and already I think I can confidently say that I have found my FAVORITE interior of the year- Mary McDonald’s interiors of her Hollywood guest house. You read that right, this is her guest house. I can’t even begin to discuss how much I love it because I might have a stroke, and I have to go to yoga in an hour.
Her place is bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S!
How about this pagoda-esque headboard? And the glossy red/orange ceiling?
This reminds me of the cabanas at the Viceroy Palm Springs (p.s. Kelly Wearstler, you are on notice. Mary is schooling you right now design wise!) The greek key trims, curtained walls…delish.

I literally screamed when I saw this room- it’s like living inside a spool of grosgrain ribbon! LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.
These rooms are more polished and traditional- I love the use of grey with pops of bright colors.

The peice de resistance- the master bedroom done in dark navy with bright pink accents and crisp white details. Notice the ceiling of the canopy bed in bright pink- what a genius little detail. This room really has all traditional furnishings, but it’s just been taken to a new, bolder level.

I am literally SALIVATING over these photos. Mary is a genius.
OMG
i can’t take it either !
and do you know why it is soooooo fabulous ??
because SHE HAD TOTAL FREEDOM !
she was the client.
not someone that was afraid that they might not like something …..
i love , beyond love it …no words .
she is pure gutsy genius.
my kinda’ gal .
Renee,I so agree. Sometimes I feel concerned about wanting to do different bold colors in each room of my house, but like Mary I love making statements with color and her pics gave me confidence to go ahead and try whatever I feel like! My house is my “lab” of sorts!
I absolutely see what you see in these interiors. My favorites are the striped wall treatment running horizontal in such bold colors and I wouldn’t normally like this, but I like that master bedroom carpet. (I don’t even like blue, so she must be a master).
I’ll be her guest.
obsessed
Just beautiful! I adore and want that kitchen…even though I only see part of it from the photo. Awesome. Will save for inspiration, thank you for sharing!
Oh my gosh, this house is PERFECTION! Great post, Erin!
could not agree more!
The master bed carpet is handpainted sisal- so killer.
that is too funny!! i feel like we always do this…great minds think alike :)…now if we can only move into this house…i can’t stop thinking about it…
I am literally obsessing about this space today- hope my new Domino comes this afternoon so i can tack up the pics on my inspiration board!
I want to be her friend so I can go and stay at her guest house!! I mean I dont even have to stay, just give me an hour in the place so I can take in all that amazing design, oh yea and take a picture of every inch of the house so I can use it ALL for my future inspiration! LOVE IT!
I think I am I the only one who doesn’t like it at all. I feel like I’d be so claustrophobic and dizzy… caved in by those dark colors and patterns. Somewhat Alice in Wonderland. I of course liked the bathroom the best – it was so light and airy! And granted, I am partial to light-colored interiors, but I have seen plenty of examples with dark colors and patterns that I thought were fabulous. This one, not so much. I have faith a new favorite will show up.
I think i would get a bit “tipsy” on all the detail. I require a house that is much more serene– I get dizzy just looking at the pictures, iy seems excessive to me. Just sayin’…………
design wise it is genius. her main house was on the front cover of last month’s veranda–much more formal but with gutsy color combos as well.
mary has always been my personal favorite, with ruthie coming in a close second.
i must scope out every last detail when i get my magazine!
I LOVE the outside and the pagoda bedroom’s colors. I got my Domino this afternoon, so hopefully you did, too!
