O Canada!

I picked up Canadian House & Home Makeovers magazine the other week because I had already read all the US home magazines and was jonesing for a fix. Man, was it worth every one of my eight US dollars!!! I will keep this issue on file for a long time, I can tell you that. So to save you, my dear readers, the $8, here are scans of some of my favorite articles and pictures- and I saved a good one for tomorrow as well, so tune in then…
Some great images of ways to hang art:

Kitchen ideas galore! Loving the mini-banquette bottom right and the grey cabinets
bottom left:

Fantastic before and after of refinished thrift store finds! I am a big fan of doing this- it’s green and creative and gives you items that no one else will have! That chair fabric is the Premier Prints favorite for $8 a yard!

Gorgeous kitchen with farm table and crystal chandelier (love the play of these two contrasting items) and eating area (loving the large lantern as a chandelier and the bench!)

Bright and happy fireplace and entryway- it’s a great idea to use a large scale wallpaper in little nooks like this!

Some genius renovating ideas- some of which I’ve used myself- painting dark wood white brightens a room and gives it a modern face lift like no one’s business (check out my home’s before and after below!) Tip number 6 is something I’d love to do for my master bath door- fogged glass to add a touch of sleekness and allow some filtered light through rooms.

Just a little white paint does wonders!

This dark grey dining romo with lots of decorative molding is delicious (and reminds me of Prestons room from the Top Design finale). The yellow bathroom wallpaper right makes you just smile, no?

  1. Canadian House & Home is a great magazine, and will only get better with Suzanne Dimma taking over the helm as the new Editor, she has a really fresh and eclectic style (she's also host of hgtv Canada's The Style Dept, and former Home Editor of Wish magazine). House & Home's quarterly special interest pubs are great resource guides and I find myself referencing back to them often.

  2. Oh what a great magazine. Now instead of being content with the pages you scanned I want to run out and purchase a copy of it!

I love that premier prints brown/cream cane fabric I’m actually trying to get my client aka my sister and her roommates agree on it for their living rooom re-do I’m doing for them.

  3. Seriously the best magazine, I bought last month’s and can’t even bring myself to tear out all the pages and file them away. Maybe I should ask for a subscription for Christmas…

  4. Love that magazine! When I flipped through it, the idea I thought was really great was the organic lamp on the bench in the entry hall. Very original idea!
    Thanks for the great post!

  5. After you posted this, I had to run right down stairs to the the bookstore see the rest of it myself- love everything in it! I think I need a subscription now.

  6. FABULOUS! I never even knew about this magazine, but the content seems amazing. Thanks for sharing!

I love the framed suzani and the dining room with the huge lantern. Their thrift store finds are great, too.

  7. I did the same thing! I was looking for Garden and Gun, and I came out w/ some Australian Vogue Living and a British Elle Decor, or vice-versa, and this one. They were all yummy! I was excited to see Patricia Gray in there!

  8. Canada is very hip. Another great Canadian magazine is Style at Home. It's great to have fabulous Canadian magazines, because we can't always get the merchandise from US magazines.
