A Challenge!

My cousin sent me this photo from WS Home and challenged me to create a bedroom look using it as inspiration….but on a strict budget. I love a challenge!!!
I wanted to maintain the dramatic dark grey/light blue pairing with white and some country accessories mixed in, all from budget friendly retailers.
(Click on photo for larger view)

This is another version in which the bedding and headboard is lighter (less of that dark gray as shown, but a similar, more ethereal feeling)

How did I do?

Looks great! Just out of curiosity, would you mind emailing me with a quote as to how much it costs to have you do something like this? sarah.bradley5@gmail.com
    Thanks!

Wow, you really did great ! I think I’m liking the lighter one a bit better because of that headboard, but I really love the other too. What a great combination of colors.

Ah ha!! Challenge met! I love it! What I failed to mention was that I needed to work with some of my existing items…that’s where the real challenge lies. But you have done a PERFECT job recreating the look and feel I was going for! I LOVE those west elm sheets. Have you ever bought their sheets before? I’m wondering if they will feel like cardboard?

    Hi Erin,

I love it! Btw, I purchased a different version of the Victoria Hagan tables for use in my bedroom and found them to be way too short. I bought the "Victoria Hagan Perfect Pieces™ Darby Table" (found at: http://www.target.com/Victoria-Hagan-Perfect-Pieces-Darby/dp/B000FM2ZVK/sr=1-4/qid=1217550652/ref=sr_1_4/602-1765334-7275838?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Avictoria%20hagan&page=1) and they are about 7 inches shorter then my bed. I should have returned them at the time, but I really needed a quick solution so I ended up keeping them. They are great quality though.

Great job! I love that nailhead headboard. I looked for it on Target.com, but I couldn’t find it. :(

Is that something you think one could make pretty easily? What all would I need to buy? Thanks!

You did an amazing job! I would definitely go with the slate headboard and keep most of the rest lighter. I LOVE the West Elm bedding, but I maybe too much tufting with the headboard, I would look for a similar color bedding in a sleek bedcover. (this is me thinking I would want the headboard AND the bedding, not that you put it together… hmmm… choices. ) I love the tufting on the duvet though. Neato.

The only think that I would add is to take notice of the teen black details (the feet on the chair, the footed console bowl, picture frame…) as these are the elements that anchor the room and keep it from looking too “floaty” (I know, real technical designer lingo) and give that bit of sophistication.

If she is looking to apply her current furniture, just paint out what she can in white and recover… the statement “slate” piece with a blue backdrop and the right accessories will pull it together.

    And the lamp is perfect.

    Have fun!
